More Branding Iron Information

Material

Depending on what you're thinking about, our woodworking branding irons are made from 360-H02 brass. It is a free machining brass that is made from a combination of copper and zinc. Our rods are carbon steel with USA made hardwood handles.

Uses

We've seen these branding irons used with just about any material that can create an impression.

Brass branding irons in woodworking are mainly used for making detailed, decorative impressions on finished wood surfaces. While steel is more common for heavy-duty wood branding, brass has some specialized uses in woodworking, especially when fine detail, precision, or a more artistic touch is needed.

🔨 Common Uses for Brass Branding Irons in Woodworking:

1. Maker’s Marks / Logos

  • signature or logo on the bottom/back of pieces like cutting boards, furniture, cabinetry, or turned bowls.

fine lines and sharp detail, making it great for small text or intricate logos.

2. Wedding & Gift Items

  • personalizing wooden gifts: charcuterie boards, picture frames, boxes, and coasters.

3. Custom Furniture

  • limited edition or custom furniture builds with a brand that includes initials, dates, or design numbers.

4. Artisanal Products

  • branding handmade items like pens, knife handles, jewelry boxes, or decorative carvings.

5. Light-Duty Wood Surfaces

  • Brass is softer than steel, so it’s not typically used for deep burning into hardwoods — better for light to medium burns on softer or already-finished woods.
